Founder of AfterSession

Robbie Edwards is the founder of AfterSession, an AI-assisted therapy note tool for licensed mental health clinicians. He built AfterSession after watching his wife, a therapist, spend her evenings buried in session notes.

Before AfterSession, Robbie was the founder of an online tax preparation platform that was acquired by Credit Karma in 2016. He has spent his career as a software engineer and founder building tools that make complicated work simpler — first for people filing their taxes, and now for the clinicians who take care of the rest of us.

Robbie writes about the intersection of clinical documentation, AI-assisted workflows, and privacy-first product design. Content on AfterSession is created with AI assistance and reviewed for accuracy under Robbie's direction, with a focus on giving clinicians practical, accurate guidance about the documentation formats they use every day.

Why AfterSession exists

The idea for AfterSession didn't come from a product roadmap. It came from watching someone he loves finish a full day of sessions and then sit down at the kitchen table to spend two more hours writing notes.

AfterSession is built around a simple rule: reduce the documentation burden without changing how a clinician practices, and never store more patient data than is strictly required to do the job. That's why the product does not require full session recordings, why it doesn't train on user data, and why every piece of infrastructure is designed for HIPAA-aligned handling from the ground up.

Editorial approach

Content on AfterSession is written for practicing clinicians. When a guide describes a documentation format — SOAP, DAP, BIRP, GIRP, PIE, or a progress note — the guide is written to match how the format is actually used in mental health settings, not a generalized version borrowed from unrelated healthcare fields. Where clinical judgment matters, we say so explicitly. Where a claim needs a source, we cite it.
